Alisa Burke
Alisa was born and educated in the UK (including 5 years at an (almost) unpronounceable Welsh secondary school!) and completed a BA in Economics and Philosophy at Oxford University winning a scholarship for her work in Philosophy of Mind. Alisa went on to work in corporate for 8 years in finance (3 of which in Singapore) and then enjoyed some time off to raise her family which are all now of school age.
Alisa has always been passionate about sport and exercise and weight training has been a part of her adult life as long as she can remember. Achievements have included rowing for the Oxford University Lightweight Development Squad, captaining college squash and tennis teams, dance/ballet, league tennis (currently WITS in Singapore) and in recent years has competed in two sprint distance triathlons, the inaugural Singapore Half Ironman (female team entry) and shortly Singapore’s first all female triathlon as well as the Phuket long triathlon. Other interests include organic food, children’s nutrition/ food allergies, beading and in the UK managed the renovation of a very special old house on the Welsh borders.
With the building blocks in her life nicely placed, Alisa then looked for a goal that met her interests but most importantly to her could really help others. In 2006 she completed a foundation course in Social Sciences and is currently studying towards a second degree in Psychology with a special interest in Developmental, Health and Counselling Psychology. In her words “it feels like aiming for that top segment of the pyramid whereby you aim to become fully what you are capable of becoming”.
Alisa came to Body Temple as a client in 2006 and soon became interested in the strong link between psychology and exercise. With Suzanne’s encouragement she took the steps to become a personal trainer. Alisa has completed her training as an instructor at Body Temple, OPTS Fat Loss and Strength Band workshops and OPTS Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification.
Alisa says “ the philosophy Body Temple uses in training; informing and empowering clients to achieve their potential and seeing that they can make positive changes, is one I believe in. It is wonderful to work in a truly friendly team that shares so many psychology/fitness interests”.
